Information about Midnight Oil and their song “Beds Are Burning” will be supplied upon request. As always, note that my information is accurate as of 2024, so some information about the current status may not be fully present.
Midnight Oil:
- Midnight Oil is an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1972.
- They are known for using politically motivated lyrics.
- The band is known for singing and dancing with the utmost energy and offering a lasting social and environmental contribution.
- The band found critical and commercial success in equal measure, especially during the 1980s and early 90s.
“Beds Are Burning” was released twenty years ago, in 1987. It is one of the best-known songs of the band Midnight Oil. It was featured in their album Diesel and Dust. This song discusses the issue of aboriginal land rights in Australia, especially the restoration of land to the Pintupi tribal group, one of the last groups to be acquainted with white Australians.
The views expressed in the song’s lyrics communicate Indigenous land rights and reconciliation. It became an international hit and brought global awareness to Australia’s imbalance of indigenous rights.
Evolution of the Group:
Also, if only for all the purposes of argument, let us assume that the journey of the group Midnight Oil was formed in the surf rock genre under the name of “farm” as early as 1972. Initially, there were Members Rob Hirst, Jim Moginie, and Andrew James. In the singer’s place, Garrett came and took over as the first vocalist in 1975 and, therefore, was part of the ensemble till its name became Midnight Oil. Guitarist from 1977 joined the band Martin Rotsey.

‘Midnight Oil’ thrived on and off until 2002 as a group but made a comeback in 2017 with world shows. In the course of them, they also put out new music and went on tour. In 2021, the band informed their fans that the 2022 tour would be the last of its kind, thus raising the curtains on their performing career.
Since musicians’ careers and lives change over time, I suggest that the reader review the latest available materials to determine the whereabouts of the band members.
