Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem declined Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s request to put ICE operations on hold during Halloween. Pritzker’s request for the “suspension of immigration enforcement…which forbids the undocumented members and the children of their families to enjoy holiday activities” was described as “a call for basic human decency.” Noem responded that there were no plans to pause immigration enforcement, ICE operations are critical to the safety of the public, and there would be no pause—even for ICE, even for Halloween, even when children are out trick-or-treating.”
