Here is Chase first day of official training with Mark Chen. I need to work with Chase all week unit our next session with Mark Chen next Sunday at 1 pm. Also on the videos is Mark’s Dutch Shepherd Ellis. Chase learned to sit, down, stay, and jump on a bunker. Need lots of practice daily. Need to get a electric collar, chain training collar, and five different types of balls to reward him for next week. Chase, my long-coat black and red German Shepherd adolescence pup was born on January 25th, 2023. I purchased Chase on September 12th, 2023 when he was eight months old. I was searching Long-Haired German Shepherd dogs on Hoobly (highly recommend this website if you are shopping for dogs) and found Dan Ivenovic, a breeder of German Shepherd and Doberman Pinschers – all German bloodlines and exotic rare long hair French Bulldogs). Dan Ivenovic is based in Deerfield, Illinois, which is 30 minutes from where I live. I talked back and forth with Dan Ivenovic for a few days over the phone about maybe getting two long-coat German Shepherd dogs and a time and date for seeing the dogs. On September 12th, 2023, Dan said he can drop the dogs to may house to see them and if I like them, I could purchase them. I told him that I just want one German Shepherd dog because the German Shepherd I am buying will be my 12th dog so just to bring one. Just so everyone knows, I do have 12 dogs and they are all inside dogs. At the time my wife and I had 11 dogs (Dog #1 Female Pit Bull that was a rescue where I had to adopt or the previous owners were moving to Florida and could not take her and a male Pitbull. The male Pit Bull, my friend and fellow loan officer Jose Morales adopted. Dog #2: Stella is a 8 year old grey female Standard Poodle who is a rescue. Stella and dozens of dogs were confiscated from a large puppy breeding mill by the Sheriff’s Department in Central Wisconsin. Stella was abused, undernourished, and was about to get transported to a kill county animal shelter. Dog #3: Four year-old French Bull Dog – Adopted last year from Highland, Illinois. Dog # 4: Five-year old four pound toy poodle. Dog #5: Five-year old five pound Yorkshire Terrier. Dog #6 and Dog #7: Five year old Boston Terrier brothers. Dog #8 eleven year old toy poodle. Dog #9: Five-year old toy poodle. Dog #10: Six-year old Schiz Szu-Pomeranian mix. Dog #11: Six-year old three pound Chihuahua. Chase makes it dog #12). So, when I adopted Chase, he was eight months old. He was very skittish, was not leash trained, was semi-potty trained, did not know how to sleep on a dog bed, did not know nothing about toys, did not know how to walk and down the stairs, did not know human food, ice cream, or treats, did not know how to walk into different rooms through a door, did not know how to get in and out of my truck, and did not know many things a normal eight month dog should know. I had to take him to the vet every other week because of warms and a stomach parasite which took six months to treat. Anyways, I spent a lot of time with him. Taught him the basics, took him for rides, introduced him to toys, and soon he started coming around. All his four-legged furry brothers and sisters eventually welcomed Chase into their group and he became part of the family. We also have three unfriendly skittish rescue cats. Chase gets along with everyone and doesn’t mind the little ones snapping at him or disrespecting him by stealing his toys or food. Eventually, Chase choose a red 16 inch ball as his favorite toy. He brings his red ball throughout the day to take him out to play fetch. I disregard him many times because I am in the middle of something to do for work. He then picks up his ball and drops it to me. He continues to do this half a dozen times and if I disregard him, he will pick up his red ball and throws it to me. I ignore him, his next move is he will pick up his red ball and hands it to me and while he is doing so, you can see the whites of his eyes. NOW, HOW CAN I SAY NO TO HIM. I then change my clothes to take him out so we can play catch one on one. I need to take him out of the house to play fetch because if I take home to the back yard, we get disrupted from the other dogs. When we both had enough, we both go back in the house. Not once does Chase let his red ball out of the house. I bought other similar balls for Chase but he only wants his beat up red ball. The point for this story is you will see pictures of Chase and most pictures Chase has his red ball

with him. German Shepherds are the best dog breed I have had. My first dog, Jeannie, was a female German Shepherd I had when I was a freshman in high school. My best friend, loyal, and was always with me wherever I went. I will save that story for a different separate thread. I highly recommend German Shepherd breed for those people who want to get a dog for their family. Many people think German Shepherd dogs will not get along with small dogs, cats, and children. My First Dog: The Story of Jeanie

Until 1976, my family and I lived in Chicago. That is when we moved to Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Ever since I could remember, I had one dream: to own a German Shepherd. My imagination would run wild as I thought of having a dog accompany me on my adventures. While attending middle school at River Trails Junior High School, my father had a different plan for me. As I was advancing to high school, he told me I could have any dog I wanted if I got straight A’s for the first semester at John Hersey High School. It sounded outrageous and impossible, but I was determined to achieve my new goal.

I knew exactly how to achieve this, so I stayed focused. Ultimately, it paid off, and I received straight A’s. Following his promise, my father took me to Noah’s Ark Pet Center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. There, I found the perfect eight-week-old German Shepherd puppy waiting for me. A black-and-tan female with two upright ears overflowing with curiosity made me instantly fall in love. I named her Jeanie, and we shared an inseparable bond.

Jeanie and I were as thick as thieves. Her vivaciousness and spirited personality brought joy to my life. Every summer, we would go to the local forest preserve, where Jeanie would find softballs that people left behind from their games on weekends. She would gather enough to fill a garbage bag, and I used to sell them to my classmates for $2 each. Thus, turning our adventures into a side hustle. Jeanie didn’t require a leash at home or when I traveled. She accompanied me everywhere, and her company was always soothing.

Fast forward to my college sophomore year. I was on the high school swim team, and one day, while in the garage, I heard some whimpering. To my astonishment, Jeanie was in the process of giving birth to puppies. Like many dog owners, I had assumed her weight gain was simply due to her enjoying life, but she was pregnant. Her graceful demeanor shone through every aspect of her life, even giving her puppies, and it was awe-inspiring to witness.

When I was getting ready to go to college, I encountered a difficult decision that I had to make. I had to leave my dog, Jeanie, so I had a friend from church take care of her. Saying goodbye to Jeanie felt like losing a piece of myself. During the drive, she broke loose from my friend’s hold and chased after us, barking desperately. That was the last moment I spent with her. She ran away shortly after, and my friend was convinced she would never return. That news destroyed me, and for years, I ached from the loss, worried about where she might be and if she was safe.

Jeanie’s memory lingers like a gentle echo of love’s sweetness. She was my first German Shepherd, and I didn’t get another one until recently, when Skylar entered my life. Among my other dogs, Chase and Bailey, Skylar shines the brightest. She is the echo of Jeanie; she is perpetually near, sleeping next to me, panicking during errands, and methodically checking rooms until she locates me. Lighting up my day with her barks and wagging tail, welcoming me home. I do my best to take her everywhere, just like with Jeanie. Looking at Skylar sometimes makes me feel like Jeanie’s spirit is still with us, reincarnated as a loving and loyal dog.

Jeanie transformed from just a pet into something more: a partner on my escapades, an introduction to responsibility, my first love, and tough lessons in goodbye. Delighting in her gentle affection, Skylar carries that legacy forward and reminds me each day of the bond I’ll cherish forever.

My 7 year old Boston Terrier, Quincy, left cheeck swollen

Great appetite but doesn’t seem to get better with antibiotics.

Started past month. Bleeding from eyes past three days. At the veterinary hospital now.

I have a 8 year old male Boston Terrier and his right side of his head near his eye is puffed up like he has a cyst, tumor, or inflamation for the past three weeks. The swollen area is reducing the size of his eyelid and bleeds from time to time (drops). Can you advise on what the problem could be and the cure? I know I should take the dog to the veterinarian but cannot afford to. A similar situation like inflamed swollen part of the head on an Old English Mastiff and it was a $2,000 vet bill. The diagnosis outcome was a incurable tumor. I would appreciate any thoughts and advice. Antibiotics did not work.

I have been following Punch the baby macaque monkey born on July 2025 in a Japanese Zoo on a very hot day. The mother had a difficult childbirth and abandoned the newborn Macaque from the day it was born which is very uncommon and unusual. Primates are very loving to its newborns and learn everything from its mother. I have been following the story of Punch the orphan baby monkey. From the day Punch was born, two zoo keepers have been taking care of Punch. The zoo keepers gave Punch an orangutan stuff monkey 🐒

My big guy Chase, my German Shepherd Dog, has a baby sister. SKYLAR. Skylar is an eight month old female long coat black and red German Shepherd Dog from the same breeder Chase came from. Chase is neutered and i am going to get Skylar spayed in about six months. Skylar is underweight and skinny. You can feel the ribs when you pet her on the sides of her body. Skylar was the runt of the litter and was bullied on by her furry brothers and sisters. She was bit in many places and her siblings stole her portion of Dog food so that is why she is underweight and malnourished. Had a visit to the veterinarian and got her tested for worms 🪱 and parasites. Results came back negative. Skylar is takung a 14 day antibiotics program due to her scabs, a lump on her left side rib area due to blunt trauma and urinary infection and scratches on her vulva. She got her rabbits and puppy shots and weighs 52.5 pounds. Unfortunately Skylar is not fully potty trained nor obedience trained. I will work on a training regiment after a few weeks. Extremely skittish therefore I want her to get used to her new home and her new family and environment. Here are a few photos of Skylar and Chase. One of Skylar ears is floppy. I adopted Skylar on Sunday October 6th. Dan Ivenovic dropped her off the house. Dan has two other German Shepherd pups that are nine months. Please let me know if anyone is interested . She was 180 pounds when I got her in mid August 2025 foe my wife’s birthday. Chance our big boy Mastiff died when he was 13 years old and my wife was mourning his passing over a year. Chance was a malnourished abused Old English Mastiff where I adopted him from Springfield Missouri when he was 18 months old. He was nothing but bones and only weighed 70 pounds, which was less than half of what the normal weight Attached are pictures of Sage. I raised dogs of all kinds all my life. I had from little Tiny Teacup Poodles, to Yorkies, German Shorthair Pointers, German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Labrador Retrievers, Shitzu, Chihuahuas, Toy Poodles, Pit Bulls, Standard Poodle, mixed breeds of all sizes, French Bulldog, and last but not least, the Old English Bull Mastiff. In this post, I will discuss Old English Bull Mastiffs.

The first Old English Mastiff I adopted was a six-month-old light blond female named Blondie. I was shopping at PetSmart in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and a lady had a larger Old English Mastiff on a leash with her. She asked me if I liked her dog, and I said, Of course. She told me her dog was for sale for $1,500 firm. I told her I would buy her. Besides Blondie, I also purchased two Maine Coon kittens for my kids. Blondie was a sweetheart and a gentle giant. Large boned and clumsy.

After having Blondie for a year with us, I purchased her a brother from Oklahoma. I paid $3,000 for a 10-week-old Old English Mastiff. We named the brown six-month-old light blond le Old English Mastiff Dagwood. Eventually, they bonded together and were inseparable. Unfortunately, Dagwood died when he was no more than three years old on the way to the animal hospital. He passed due to respiratory issues or infection. Blondie passed away when she was about six years old due to a brain tumor.

After about a year or so, I discovered a guy in Boca Raton, Florida, had a one-year-old Mastiff and could no longer keep him. I saw pictures of the Mastiff, and he was a giant for a 12-month-old Old English Mastiff. The dog was Bentley, and he eventually reached approximately 275 pounds. Bentley was a gentle giant who passed away when he was six. Do not know the cause of death. My family and I, including all our dogs, were in Central Wisconsin because my father-in-law was dying. Bentley passed in Central Wisconsin and had him cremated at an animal hospital in Adams County, Wisconsin.

Right around the time I adopted Bentley, I adopted another Old English Mastiff, Chance. Chance was close to two years old and an abused, malnourished Mastiff. I arranged transportation for Chance to be delivered to my house in Wisconsin from Springfield, Missouri. I could not believe how Chance’s physical shape was when he arrived at my home around 8 pm. Chance must have weighed no more than 75 pounds; you can see every rib on both sides due to being starved by these cruel, evil so-called dog owners. The owners got charged and arrested for animal cruelty, and Chance was placed in a foster home. Chance’s foster parent told my wife and me that if we think Chance looks bad now, we should have seen him two months ago. He told us you cannot recognize that Chance was a dog, just bones with loose skin. Chance was a godsend, a great older brother to all our other dogs, loyal, well-behaved, super smart, and grateful to have a home with loving parents and many brothers and sisters. Chance turned out to live to be 13 years old. My wife’s favorite dog was the one she was devastated by when he passed away. If it were most folks, they would have put Chance to sleep when he was 11 years old because he lost the strength in his rear legs and needed to be carried through a back harness to go potty or move about. He then got sick multiple times in the last year he was alive, so we took him to the animal emergency. After Chance passed, my wife Laurie prayed daily that she missed Chance and that one day God would connect her with another Mastiff just like Chance in her life. This was going on for over two years, where she prayed, and not a day went by that she did not think of Chance. Laurie’s birthday was August 14th, so she has pretty much everything she needs and wants, and it wasn’t easy to find her a gift she would remember, cherish, and appreciate as a special once-in-a-lifetime birthday gift. Since she mentioned Chance daily and prayed, I was looking for a similar dog to Chance. An Old English Mastiff, around two years old, with similar characteristics to Chance. I turned to Facebook Marketplace, and one ad stuck out. A two-year-old female Old English Mastiff needed a new home because their young children had severe allergies. A great family, and the gentleman, Mike, was a true animal lover who was teary-eyed and never had to rehome a dog. His wife, Mike, and his children really loved the dog, and unlike Chance, Zoey was very well cared for. I drove two hours to Kankakee, Illinois, from Salem, Wisconsin, to pick Zoey up I met Mike, a gentleman and scholar, and Zoey. Zoey is a big girl. 160 pounds. Extremely intelligent. Picked Mike as her person and was super attached to Mike.

When I arrived at their home, I saw Mike sitting in a chair in the front yard, the garage overhead door open, and Zoey nearby, without a leash. This was Monday, August 25, 2025. Zoey is a dog who is hardly ever leashed. When Mike walked to the park four blocks away, Zoey heeled by him and walked alongside him without a leash. Mike picked Zoey up and put her in the rear of my SUV. She is extremely skittish. She was well-behaved on the two-hour drive back home. When I got home, my wife met me outside and greeted Zoey. I have never seen a dog so terrified once I opened the hatch of my SUV, where she made a run to get loose. Luckily, I had a leash on her. We had to calm her down and have her believe that we were not out to hurt her, and we love her and protect her.

It was a good 30 minutes before I got a choker and a different, stronger leash, and I escorted her towards the garage service door leading to the house. She did not want to go. Little by little, we made progress with baby steps. As we entered the house, something from the garage fell off a shelf and made a noise, which alarmed Zoey. My wife comforted her, and I wanted her in the house. She was so nervous and scared that she pooped. Eventually, I took her to the main bedroom and closed the door so no other dogs could commingle with her until she got to know her surroundings. Poor girl eventually walked around the house and got to know every room on the first floor. That evening, she slept in the main bedroom away from our other dogs. The next morning, I took her out again solo, and she did fine peeing and pooping.

The next morning was yesterday. She ate dog food and drank for the first time since she came home. Zoey is still skittish, but is beginning to trust my wife, where she will go to her when called and follow her around. I will let you all know how we are doing. It would be a week before Zoey lets her guard loose and maybe 30 days or more before she realizes this will be her new home. We will see, but so far, so good.

I had both German Shepherd and Doberman Pinscher dogs all my life and currently have Doberman Pinschers. Both Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherds are phenomenal dogs. Both Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherds are extremely intelligent dogs, if not the top two smartest dogs in the world. Both Dobermans and Shepherds to not need any training but are self trained. They watch their owners and learn by themselves. They quickly pick up what is the right thing to do and what type of behaviors is not condoned. However, I prefer Doberman Pinschers vs German Shepherds due to various reasons. Both Doberman Pinschers and German Shepherds are highly intelligent, trainable breeds. However, knowing that any dog—regardless of its breed—needs training and socialization is essential. The belief that dogs do not need these or are “self-trained” can result in behavior problems.

That being said, here are some reasons why people might prefer Doberman Pinschers over German Shepherds:

Agility and Size: Dobermans have a more streamlined build, which makes them more agile than German shepherds. Doberman’s streamline build. This makes them suitable for different tasks or living arrangements.

Grooming Needs: A Doberman Pinscher’s coat is shorter, so grooming requirements will be less than those needed by a German shepherd, whose fur is longer.

Health Concerns: Compared to GSDs, Doobies may experience fewer issues with hip dysplasia and elbow diseases. Both breeds can suffer from health problems, but this happens more often in one breed than the other.

Nature: They’re described as “velcro-like” because they tend to stick closely with their owners whenever possible.

Barking Level: In certain living situations, such as apartments where noise should be minimal, barky GSDs would not fit into such homes, while quieter dobes would suit perfectly well without disturbing anyone else’s peace during quiet hours.

Looks/Sleekness Factor: Some individuals prefer muscularly built dogs like dobes instead of fluffy ones like German Shepherd dogs. German Shepherd dogs shed everywhere around the house all day long. Knowing somebody loves them unconditionally, even if nobody else does, makes them feel good about themselves ever again until death separates them apart. Amen!

Heat Tolerance Levels (for Southern states): Short hair means coolness during summer when temperatures rise above 80 degrees Fahrenheit, but it still warms up enough not to freeze winter nights. Either way, either direction works out best all year round here down south, where the sun shines nonstop day year-round, and long-term life expectancy wise, too!!!

When people first saw this man walking his pack of six German shepherds without any leashes, they couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The blind obedience the dogs showed left everyone amazed. Some even thought maybe he had forced the dogs into acting this way, but when the truth finally came out, it shocked and amazed everyone even more.

Here is our third German Shepherd Dog Bailey. We call Bailey “Floppy” because both of her ears are floppy. Skylar has just one year that is floppy but Skylar floppy ear 👂 is getting stronger 💪 and stands up when it is cold. Bailey turned one year old in January 25th, 2025 so she is now 14 months old. Bailey like Skylar is extremely skittish and not potty trained. I have not started any training regiment for Bailey since she is terrified of people. We are making progress with Bailey because she started playing with Chase, Skylar and our other dogs 🐕 (Bailey’s brothers and sisters)

Skylar was also very skittish but not like Bailey. I will post more pics and video clips of Bailey and keep you all updated on her progress. Attached are some photos of Bailey. I don’t want to take a lot of pics and videos of Bailey because I don’t want to freak her out.

I spoke with James Abrams, who normally goes by JD. JD is a BDM at NEXA Mortgage, and I have known him for several years. I have heard different, if not shocking, news from JD. JD adopted a German Shepherd dog over a year ago. The dog’s name is Chloe. The German Shepherd dog Chloe is two years old. I asked JD how his German shepherd dog was doing. JD went on to tell me that his dog is doing great and how much he loves Chloe. Then he went on to tell me about an incident he had with Chloe a few months back. James said his German shepherd dog, Chloe, had ten puppies. The father of the ten puppies is not known since Chloe got out of her territory and wandered the neighborhood. The weirdest part of the story was that every time James went to check on the puppies, the number of pups was getting reduced. For example, the ten puppies he witnessed and counted, it went down to eight pups. Then seven puppies. Then five. So JD said something was up. Long story short, Chloe, the German shepherd dog that gave birth to ten puppies, was eating her own puppies with two puppies left over. Besides the ten puppies, the German shepherd Chloe at two birds, Cockatiels, that James kept as pets. I will ask James if he can share the entire story on this forum. Anyone hear of such a bizarre incident where a dog who gave birth to a large litter of puppies at the entire litter? I heard of animals eating the placentas of their newborns but not devouring the entire pup. Something is wrong with her. Any response to this thread will be greatly appreciated.

JD, I appreciate you sharing your story. I am sure you going through this bizarre incident with Chloe is not the first case among those dog lovers and owners who are either intentionally or unintentionally breeding their dogs.
