The very touching and sad tale of Tommy the Alsatian and his owner, Maria Margherita Lochi, occurred in a small village called San Donaci in southern Italy. Here is their story in detail:
Connection:
57-year-old Maria Lochi adopted Tommy as a puppy when he was a stray. They became inseparable over time. Maria had taken in many strays since she was known for her love for animals, but there was something special about Tommy.
Church Attendance:
Every day, Maria would walk to mass at the Santa Maria Assunta village church, which Tommy would always follow. Father Donato Panna, the priest, let him sit quietly by her feet during services.
Maria’s Death:
Maria died in November 2012, and her funeral took place at the church where she used to go regularly.
Tommy’s Vigil:
Tommy began showing up at the church every day after Maria died whenever the bells rang for mass. He would sit silently where he sat with her during services until she died. He continued this behavior month after month following her death.
Community Response:
The villagers were touched deeply by how loyal Tommy remained even after his owner passed away; they often brought food and water for him so that he could keep waiting there without starving or dehydrating himself while still being cared for.
Father Panna’s Role:
Father Donato Panna found himself particularly moved by what seemed like an unbroken commitment displayed on behalf of this creature towards its deceased master.“He still comes to mass each morning even though she is no longer here,” said the father. He waits patiently beside the altar railings and then just sits down quietly there. I didn’t have the heart to chase him away—I’ve only just lost my own dog, so I let him stay till the end of service before letting him out.”
Adoption:
Eventually, Father Panna decided that seeing as how faithful tending never could find another place to call home except near church, where memories about Maria seemed strongest, it would be best if he himself adopted him instead, giving opportunity for this poor animal to remain without any roof over his head at all hours but one closest to his owner’s memory.
Community Impact:
When Tommy’s story hit international headlines, it moved the locals and people worldwide. It was a powerful illustration of the deep relationship between humans and animals and how those bonds continue even after death.
Legacy:
In canine loyalty discussions and examples showing the depths of animal feelings, Tommy’s tale has been used since then. It is often mentioned during debates on whether or not creatures grieve. Also, if they do, what is duration supposed to mean exactly?
Here is a heart breaking story of Tommy the German Shepherd dog who kept on coming to church every Sunday after his owner Maria passed. The priest eventually ended up adapting the homeless loyal German Shepherd dog, Tommy.

Does your dog keep checking on you? Here’s an informative video about why dogs keep on checking on you. First, dogs check on owners for protection. Second, older dogs will check on you because dog may have health issues such as early stage of dementia. Dogs can check on you because they want to play. Dogs can check on you because sense of security. Dogs can also check on you for reinforcement. Dogs can check on you due to routines. Dogs can check on you because of communication of events. Another reason for checking on you is love and bonding. Another reason to check on you because of curiosity.

Dogs is man’s best friend and most people will validate this statement. Every dog has its own personality and is unique in their own way. For example, if a Labrador Retriever has ten pups, each of those pups will look similar and some may look identical where it’s hard to distinguish from one to another unless they have its own birthmark or unique characteristic. However, each one of those pups will develop their own personality and temperament as well as behavior. AMAZING how God created each living being to be unique with its own individual trait. On a macro level, breed of dogs has its own breed characteristics such as a dog having to always be a runner due to being a hunting dog breed or a dog loving water because it came from a Retriever breed. Toy dogs love to cuddle. Some dog breeds are easier to train than others. There are dog breeds that form the strongest bonds with their owners. Below is the list of dogs that form the strongest bonds with their owners.
1. Labrador Retriever
2. Golden Retriever
3. German Shepherd
4. Doberman Pinscher
5. Border Collie
6. Boxer
7. Austrian Shepherd
8. French Bull Dog
9. Yorkshire Terrier
10. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Dogo Argentino is a very unique and expensive dog. Those who want to adopt a Dogo Argentino should study up and research the breed before pulling the trigger. I will give you a bunch of information about the Dogo Argentino. The breed was created in Argentina by Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez in the 1920s. It was made from various kinds of dogs including the extinct Cordoba Fighting Dog, Great Dane, Boxer, Spanish Mastiff, Old English Bulldog, Bull Terrier, Great Pyrenees, Pointer and Irish Wolfhound. You can buy a Dogo Argentino from reputable breeders who specialize in them or you could check out some breed-specific rescue centers too! Some general dog rescues might have one every now and then also.
Socialization is important when raising a Dogo Argentino. Early socialization is key—consistent training from an early age should be provided as well as lots of exercise and mental stimulation too. Establish yourself as the pack leader through proper nutrition and regular vet check ups. Engage them in activities that challenge them both physically & mentally.
The temperament of this breed is loyal and protective over its family but also confident & courageous – though sometimes stubborn or independent with other animals if not properly socialized.
Size: Males: 24-26.5 inches (61-67 cm) tall; 88-100 lbs (40-45 kg) Females: 23.5-25.5 inches (60-65 cm) tall; 88-95 lbs (40-43 kg)
Personality: -Affectionate with family -Protective & alert -Smart & athletic -Determined
Male vs Female: -Males are usually bigger and more dominant. -Females may be more independent but easier to train.
Colors: Mostly white with small dark patches on head
Trainability: -Moderately easy to train but can be stubborn. -Require firm consistent training. – Respond well to positive reinforcement
Good with kids and small dogs: – They can be good with children if raised with them and properly socialized. – High prey drive, so caution is needed around small dogs and other pets.
Cost: -From a breeder: $1,500 to $5,000. -Adoption fees from rescues: $300 to $800.
Lifespan of a Dogo Argentiono ranges between 10 to 12 years on average.
Dogo Argentinos need high exercise (1-2 hours daily) and moderate grooming. Dogo Argentino may be banned or restricted in some areas due to breed-specific legislation, like other dogs, such as Pit Bulls, Cane Corso, Old English Mastiff, Great Danes, German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, and Rottweilers. It is not recommended for first-time dog owners due to their strong personalities and exercise needs. Keep in mind that each dog has its own unique personality so training should always be done carefully with positive reinforcement methods used consistently throughout the process of teaching anything new especially commands which could save lives later on when they are older but still young at heart like most big breeds!
