Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hosted a press conference on Tuesday morning in Gainesville. During the press conference, DeSantis announced on-site audits of city and county governments starting July 31, targeting areas with complaints from taxpayers of wasteful spending. Over the last five years, DeSantis said taxpayers in Gainesville have watched as the local government has increased burdens on property owners. He said there was more than $30 million in additional ad valorem tax collections, which represents an increase of almost 86% since 2020. He said part of the increased spending is in the Gainesville operating budget, which has expanded by more than $90 million a year.

Maxwell, a former associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was offered limited immunity during her meetings with the DOJ, according to reports from ABC News and Semafor.
Speaking to national reporters after Friday’s meeting, Maxwell’s attorney David Markus said, “The truth will come out” about what happened with Epstein.

On Friday, Ghislaine Maxwell, the former partner of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, underwent a second day of questioning by the Department of Justice at a Tallahassee, Florida courthouse. Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 for child sex trafficking related to Epstein, met with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche for approximately three hours, sharing details about around 100 individuals.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi dodged questions on July 15 about US President Donald Trump’s comments on the Epstein files at a press conference at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
When asked if she is expected to keep her job, she said, “I am going to be here for as long as the president wants me here – and I believe he’s made that crystal clear.”
Bondi declined to comment on Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, saying she does not discuss personnel matters. According to one source, Bongino returned to work following a weekend call with the president.

Jeffrey Epstein did not maintain a “client list,” the Justice Department acknowledged Monday as it said no more files related to the wealthy financier’s sex trafficking investigation would be made public despite promises from Attorney General Pam Bondi that had raised the expectations of conservative influencers and conspiracy theorists.
The acknowledgment that the well-connected Epstein did not have a list of clients to whom underage girls were trafficked represents a public walk-back of a theory that the Trump administration had helped promote, with Bondi suggesting in a Fox News interview earlier this year that such a document was “sitting on my desk” for review.
Even as it released video from inside a New York jail meant to definitively prove that Epstein killed himself, the department also said in a memo that it was refusing to release other evidence investigators had collected. Bondi for weeks had suggested more material was going to be revealed — “It’s a new administration and everything is going to come out to the public,” she said at one point — after a first document dump she had hyped angered President Donald Trump’s base by failing to deliver revelations.
