Did you ever hear the saying, I rather buy a house with no neighbors. I don’t like people. I love animals. Indeed, this is a famous adage for people who love animals and those who like being alone or prefer a quiet life and not dealing with two-faced people. People can lie, cheat, steal, and be sneaky. Often, many people put their guard down by trusting a so-called friend to be let down and hurt. Hence, they do not want anyone to be fooled and get either scammed, betrayed emotionally, or emotionally hurt. Many people get betrayed, lied to, taken advantage of, used, or scammed by a so-called friend, family member, sibling, parent, co-worker, spouse, business partner, or employer. People can be sneaky and conniving. Married couples can turn on each other, lie, cheat, betray, and hurt. Those hurt multiple times do not want to interrupt their living conditions. It means you should have few friends or be in large crowds because they cause more harm than good. Animals do not know how to cheat, betray, lie, connive, scam, steal, or intentionally hurt. They give you unconditional love without expecting anything in return. Many people do not want to get hurt again and say this because they love animals more than anything else since these creatures are loyal and will never betray your trust or hurt your feelings. At the same time, humans can do so easily and bring problems that may affect one’s peace of mind. Here are some other versions of it:
- “I would rather have pets than friends.”
- “I’d rather live in the wilderness with my animals than in any city with people around.”
- “My animals are better company than most people I know.”
These sayings express what many individuals feel about preferring loyalty, companionship, and simplicity offered by creatures. People may choose to stay on their own without close neighbors within their vicinity, thus enjoying quietude plus the freedom of having pets undisturbed.

You are who you hang out with, Rhonda. You hang around with drunks, you become a drunk. You hang out with pot heads, you are a pot head. You hang out with low goal oriented losers, you are one of them. You hang out with high achievers, you become a high achiever. Goal getters, you become one of them. Video game junkies, you become one of them. Gamblers, you become one of them. My thoughts on this is very simple and I stick to my beliefs. Why would a parent spend $80,000 a year for tuition, room, and board to send their child to Harvard University when they can easily spend no more than $2,000 to send their child to the local Community Junior College? English 101 at Harvard University is the same English 101 at the local two-year Community Junior College. Well, the reason is because you are who you hang with. Students at Harvard University taking English 101 are the best of the best goal getters from the entire United States congregating at one classroom or lecture hall under the nation’s top institution of higher education. Now, on the flipside, nothing is wrong with enrolling for English 101 at your local two-year junior community college but the student body may consist of a wide pool: You can have students who have no ambition and no goals, you can have a housewife who never went to college and after raising her children my be taking a few course, you may have students who once dropped out of college and want to go back to school for an associates degree, you can have hard working students just out of high school where their parents did not have the funds to send them to a four year college and the junior college is a stepping stone for them to getting a bachelors degree. Anyway, for me, I believe in quality versus quantity. I would be one solid friend than one hundred so called friends who will stab you in the back. A friend is someone who will be there for you without any alterior motives or have anything to gain. A friend is someone who will want to see you happy and make sure you do not get hurt, taken advantaged of, ridiculed, or compromised. A friend is someone who you would not hesitate to donate your kidney, blood, do a bone marrow transplant. A friend is someone who you will laugh if they laugh, smile when they smile, cry when they cry, protect, share, console, and give and take without keeping score. A friend is wealth. A friend has no price. A friend is someone you trust and let your guards down. A friend is someone that you respect, they respect you back, and love and they love you back. You only need one friend in life. That one friend does not have to be your brother, sister, son, daughter, or anyone attached by blood, law, or marriage. That friend just needs to be a son or daughter of God.

Yes, I have heard this sentiment. Liking people and having countless friends will bring joy and fun to all. However, life is different. Often, your human friends and family members will turn on you. People lie, cheat, steal, turn on you, and often take advantage of you no matter how close their relationship is. Dogs and animals DO NOT. Dogs and most pets will give you unconditional love. They do not know how to manipulate you and take advantage of you. Many people have the best relationship with a trusted, loyal, caring, four-legged furry friend: Their dog.
The saying implies that people should value their privacy more and spend time alone, in tranquility, and with nature rather than with others. Here are some of my thoughts on that:
Introversion vs Extroversion: Some individuals naturally prefer less social interaction and more alone time.
Misanthropy: There can be different reasons why someone may strongly dislike humanity.
Nature connection: Many people find peace and contentment in natural environments rather than cities or towns.
Affinity for Animals: Certain individuals relate to animals more than humans because they believe animals love without conditions or judgments.
Privacy Concerns: The desire for personal space grows as the world becomes increasingly connected.
Stress Reduction: Rural or isolated living can alleviate many problems associated with proximity to neighbors.
Freedom: Living apart from others can offer independence from social expectations and norms.
Quiet enjoyment: More peace and calm are often found in less populated areas.
Environmental concerns: Some want to live without disturbing habitats much.
Simplicity: Living away from others could represent a simpler life for some.
Though tempting, it is worth mentioning that total seclusion has its drawbacks. These include, but are not limited to, mental health implications and practicality. We humans are social beings at heart—albeit to different degrees.
If you’re ever thinking about isolating yourself further from society, consider all the pros and cons, like how you will cope mentally with such a situation and what necessary services you will need.
