A Democratic Socialist is someone who advocates for a political and economic system that combines elements of democracy with socialism. This ideology emphasizes the need for both political democracy and social ownership of the means of production, which includes a fair distribution of wealth and resources. Here are some key points about Democratic Socialism:
Political Democracy: Democratic Socialists believe in maintaining democratic institutions such as free elections, a free press, and the protection of civil liberties and political rights. They support a government that is accountable to the people.
Social Ownership: Unlike traditional socialism, which might call for state control of all industries, Democratic Socialists typically support a mix of public and cooperative ownership of key industries alongside a market economy. This can include public ownership of essential services like healthcare, education, and utilities.
Economic Equality: Democratic Socialists seek to reduce economic inequality through progressive taxation, social welfare programs, and policies that ensure everyone has access to basic needs like healthcare, education, and housing.
Worker Rights: They advocate for strong labor unions and workers’ rights, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to organize and bargain collectively.Environmental Sustainability: Many Democratic Socialists also emphasize the importance of sustainable development and environmental protection, advocating for policies that address climate change and promote renewable energy.
Global Solidarity: They often support international cooperation and solidarity, opposing imperialism and promoting global social justice.
Prominent examples of Democratic Socialists in the United States include politicians like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who advocate for policies such as Medicare for All, free public college, and the Green New Deal. Democratic Socialism differs from other forms of socialism by its emphasis on achieving socialist goals through democratic means rather than through revolution or authoritarian measures.

Unlawful mandates, economic upheaval, not respecting constitution, government ownership and not individual, unlawful seizure of property, against capitalism, not punishing criminal behavior, falsely accusing dissidents, encouraging immoral sexual perversion, discrediting religion and those who believe in God, need to believe in the government, and two classes of society: The aristocrats and the working people. The Democrat Party is turning into the Democrat Socialist party. When President Theodore Roosevelt ordered the seizure of Gold and Silver during this term in office, that was an act of Democrat Socialist practice. Anyone with Gold and Silver needed to surrender it to the U.S. government or they would face severe consequences including jail time. A democratic socialist is someone who advocates for a political and economic system that combines elements of democracy and socialism. The key principles of democratic socialism generally include:
Democracy – Preserving and expanding democratic rights, civil liberties, and political freedoms. Major policy decisions are made through democratic processes.<div>
Social Ownership – Transitioning the economy away from private corporate ownership toward public/social ownership or worker-owned cooperatives over major industries and services considered essential public goods.
Economic Planning – Using a regulated market combined with economic planning and management by the state to prioritize social good over pure profit motive.
Wealth Redistribution – Implementing progressive taxation policies along with robust public services and social safety nets to reduce economic inequality.
Workers’ Rights – Strengthening labor laws to empower unions, collective bargaining, living wages, workplace democracy and worker representation.
The overall goal is to restructure the capitalist economy away from private concentrated wealth/ownership and toward a system aimed at meeting human needs over maximizing corporate profits. However, democratic socialists generally seek to achieve this through democratic and gradualist reforms rather than outright revolution. Notable examples of democratic socialist thinkers/politicians include Eugene Debs, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and members of the Democratic Socialists of America organization in the United States.
