Sometimes the most rewarding mortgage closings are the ones that rarely happen.
Today, I want to recognize and congratulate Major Desiree Wade on successfully closing on her home in the beautiful state of Maryland yesterday!
Major Wade’s journey to homeownership was not without its challenges. After being denied a mortgage by another lender, she turned to Gustan Cho Associates for a second opportunity.
Being denied a mortgage can be frustrating, discouraging, and emotionally exhausting, especially when you have worked so hard to purchase a home. However, a mortgage denial from one lender does not necessarily mean the end of the road.
Our team took over Major Wade’s mortgage file, rolled up our sleeves, and worked closely with our trusted wholesale lending partners at Jet Mortgage to find a path forward.
What began as a mortgage denial ended with Major Wade receiving the keys to her home!
This closing was truly a team effort, and I want to personally recognize the exceptional individuals who helped make it happen.
First, a heartfelt thank-you to Janelle Weigel, our dedicated contract mortgage processor, whose hard work, organization, and commitment to moving the file forward were instrumental in getting Major Wade to the closing table.
A special round of applause goes to Toni Coombs, our outstanding wholesale account executive at Jet Mortgage, and her incredible team. Toni has consistently demonstrated what it means to be a true mortgage professional. Her responsiveness, knowledge, determination, and willingness to tackle challenging mortgage scenarios make her an invaluable partner.
And, of course, Ms. Kimberly “Kim” Outlaw, our phenomenal mortgage underwriter at Jet Mortgage!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Kim. In my opinion, she is among the finest mortgage underwriters in the country. Having an underwriter who understands mortgage guidelines, examines the complete borrower picture, and approaches challenging files with professionalism and sound judgment can make all the difference.
I also want to recognize Marga Jurilla, my executive assistant, for her dedication, behind-the-scenes coordination, and unwavering support in helping our team serve our borrowers.
My sincere appreciation also goes to Greg Austin and the entire Jet Mortgage Operations and underwriting staff. Having worked with Greg and his team since 2017, I have witnessed firsthand their commitment to treating borrowers with respect, compassion, and individual attention.
There is a tremendous difference between simply reviewing a mortgage application and genuinely caring about the family behind that application.
That is why our long-standing relationship with the Jet Mortgage team means so much to us.
And finally, to Major Desiree Wade, thank you for trusting Gustan Cho Associates when your homeownership journey took an unexpected turn.

You are amazing Toni. Manuel referred me to you and told me how you helped Gustan ‘s team restructure this VA loan and get it closed. Are you licensed in New York? I will send you an email. Similar tough file but its FHA. Thanks.

Congratulations again, Desiree. Remember getting your call on that Saturday and speaking with you. A lengthy conversation and conferencing you in with Toni.
